In this symposium, the molecular and cellular basis of normal and malignant stem cells will be discussed and first approaches to target and eliminate cancer stem cells will be presented.
It will be jointly organized by the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Bethesda, and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. The symposium will be hosted by the DKFZ in Heidelberg from October 3 – 5, 2010.
Focus areas of the 2010 symposium include:
- Biology of stem cells
- Epithelial stem cells and cancer
- Hematopoietic and vascular stem cells
- Stem cells in the nervous system
- Epigenetics and reprogramming
