PhD position (TV-L E13 /half) available from January 2010 at IZN - Neurobiology
Our group is interested in the regulation of neural stem cell (NSC) proliferation. We have developed a strategy to isolate neural stem cells from the embryonic and the adult brain. The goal of our work is to device a strategy to identify neural stem cell behaviour in vivo. ( Cesetti T. et al. Stem Cells 2009 27)
The lab is located within the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences in Heidelberg and offers excellent research facilities in an intellectually stimulating environment.
The successful applicant will study the mechanisms underlying the effect of GABA on neural precursor proliferation. This concerns the role of GABA and its receptors in modulating the proliferation of different neural precursor types in the SVZ and it will involve the characterization of the different receptor types, and the analysis of the intracellular mechanisms downstream to the receptor activation.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry. Experience in viral mediated gene delivery, small animal handling and imaging will be an advantage.
