Neural differentiation defect of Fgf4-null mouse embryonic stem cells

Mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells can be differentiated into mature neurons using a chemically-defined medium called N2B27. ES cells that lack the Fgf4 gene are severely impaired at making neurons in these conditions.
