Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research

Research Group Leaders in Tissue Stem Cell Biology

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research aims to advance understanding of mammalian stem cells.  Headed by Austin Smith and Fiona Watt, Centre investigators pursue challenging questions in the fundamental biology of embryonic, foetal and adult stem cells.

The Centre currently has openings for junior and senior Group Leaders.  We are seeking to expand our programmes in tissue stem cells, including but not limited to haematopoietic and endodermal organ stem cells, and to incorporate bio-engineering and systems biology approaches.

It is expected that successful candidates will obtain external funding and win competitive fellowships from agencies such as The Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council, Cancer Research-UK, British Heart Foundation, or European Research Council.   A start-up package, including personal salary for three years, is available.

Junior Group Leaders will normally have three to six years post-doctoral experience with demonstrable achievements in substantive and original research.

Senior Group Leaders will have an international reputation for innovative high quality research and commensurate experience in team leadership.

The Centre is centrally located in Cambridge and offers excellent core facilities including transgenesis, flowcytometry, imaging and histology services.  The Centre is the hub of the Cambridge Stem Cell Initiative, a large and growing community of stem cell researchers with well-established contacts to bio-industry and clinical programmes.
