The Tissue Engineering Research Group at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (www.rcsi.ie/boneresearch) currently has a postdoctoral researcher position available in the area of corneal tissue engineering, in particular the development of collagen-based biomaterials for corneal repair.  The work will be based on a strong link between engineering design, biological performance and clinical need, and the researcher will work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary project team including principal investigators, postdoctoral researchers and consultant ophthalmologists.  This project will be carried in collaboration with the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology in Dublin City University and the Dept. of Ophthalmology in the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

Applicants will ideally have a Ph.D. in materials science/ biomedical engineering or related disciplines and preference will be given to candidates with experience in scaffolds for tissue engineering and limbal stem cell/biomaterial interactions.

Specific skills that would enhance a candidate’s application for the position include some of the following techniques: experience in scaffolds in tissue engineering, cell culture (in particular primary human stem cell culture), mechanical testing of materials, stem cell biology, advanced microscopy, histological techniques including immunohistochemistry and PCR.
