The International Society of Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) this week launched a new website designed to equip patients, their families and doctors with the tools and information they need to make decisions about stem cell treatments. Called "A Closer Look at Stem Cell Treatments", the site was developed in response to the growing number of aggressive marketing campaigns on the Internet and elsewhere offering stem cell treatments.
The site's tools for patients include a list of questions to ask about treatments and providers, resources that explain scientific principles of stem cell biology and the implications for stem cell treatments, and an outline of the well-established path from scientific discovery to medicine.
Visitors to the site can also submit for review a clinic or treatment they have seen advertised. Treatment providers will be asked to present evidence appropriate oversight and other patient protections are in place for the treatments they offer, and the ISSCR will publish online whether clinics provide the evidence requested.

Clinic review feature currently on hold
Note that the "review a clinic" service was suspended earlier this year, because of the threat of litigation from some clinics. You can read more about this in Nature.
