Frank Edenhofer

Frank Edenhofer's research group is investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying early commitment of embryonic stem cellsi and targeted differentiationi into neural precursor cells. Their work focuses on transcription factors involved in the maintenance of pluripotency and neural development.

Ira Herrmann

Ira Herrmann is the coordinator of Germany's unique network for stem celli research located in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Trained as a biologist and communication specialist she worked for several years with biotech start-up companies in the field of marketing and international cooperations.

Ole Isacson

Ole Isacson
Dr. Ole Isacson is Professor of Neurology (Neuroscience) at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the Center for Neuroregeneration Research/Neuroregeneration Laboratories at McLean Hospital and an NIH Udall Parkinson's Disease Research Center of Excellence grant awardee. Dr. Isacson is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center and Principal Faculty of Harvard Stem Celli Institute. He received his Medical Bachelor (1984) and Doctor of Medicine (a research doctoral degree in Medical Neurobiology, 1987) from the University of Lund in Sweden.

Emma Kemp

Emma Kemp is Communications Manager for the EU-funded stem celli research projects EuroSyStem and OptiStem.

Olle Lindvall

Olle Lindvall
Dr. Olle Lindvall is Professor of Clinical Neurology and Chairman of the Division of Neurology at the University Hospital, Lund, Sweden. He has served as Chairman of the Swedish Movement Disorder Society 1995-1998, Vice-Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University of Lund 1997-1999, elected member of the Board of the Swedish Research Council (medical division) 2001-2006, clinical coordinator in EU-sponsored integrated project EuroStemCell 2003-2007, and Chairman of the Steering Committee for Nordic Centers of Excellence in Molecular Medicine 2003-2007.

Alexander Medvinsky

Prof. Alexander Medvinsky graduated from the Moscow State University, Department of Embryology in 1977 and obtained his PhD in the National Centre for Oncology, Moscow in 1987.  In 1985 he started to work in the National Centre for Haematology, Moscow as a researcher and there he became interested in the development of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs).  In collaboration with colleagues, he identified a novel potent source of definitive haematopoietic activity inside the body of the embryo now called the AGM region and since then continues to work on the role of this organ in the development of HSCs.

Vicki Mowat

Vicki writes copy for the EuroStemCell website. She has has been a professional writer and editor for over 15 years, working as a newspaper reporter and editor, a Plain English writing instructor, and a freelance writer and editor for the public sector, corporations and universities.

I run a small research group in close association with Professor Austin Smith and his group.  My main interest is in how pluripotency is established in the early mammalian embryo and how pluripotenti cells can be harnessed in vitro for the establishment of embryonic stem celli lines.  We have recently established a culture system utilising specific inhibitors with which we are investigating the pluripotent state.

Michael Rieger

Since 2005, Michael Rieger has been a postdoc in Timm Schroeder´s lab at the Institute of Stem Celli Research, Helmholtz Center München, German Research Center for Environmental Health, Munich, Germany.  His research interests are cytokine function in lineagei control of normal and malignant hematopoiesis and behavioral differences of leukemic and normal hematopoietic stem cells

Ingo Roeder

Dr. Ingo Roeder is a research fellow at the Institute for Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology (IMISE), University of Leipzig, where he leads the "DYNAmic MOdeling of stem cell organization" group.  He is also a guest scientist at the Department of Computing, Goldsmiths College, University of London.
